The island of Sveti Grgur...
An uninhabited island in the Velebit Channel. In the past, residents of island Rab, located about a kilometer away, used it to graze their livestock.
Until 1988, it was home to a women's re-education camp run by the former yugoslav comunist regime, making its history no less notorious than that of its neighbor, Goli Otok. Today, only the dilapidated buildings of the former prison bear witness to its existence.
Today, Konoba Arta is writing a more pleasant story for the island with its excellent local seafood specialties. They are strongly influenced by the culinary tradition of the island of Rab, which is determined by the natural conditions imposed on the inhabitants by the Kvarner archipelago. It is given a special touch by ingredients that are only available there and the original methods of storing and preserving them, which enabled the inhabitants to survive the long and harsh island year.
You can enjoy the delicacies of Konoba Arta from the island of Sveti Grgur with us on January 23 and 24.
